Father Josep de C. Laplana, director of the Museum of Montserrat, pronounced a lecture-meditation on the Beguines. Laplana vindicated the Beguines and their role in valuing women in medieval society. Beguines are a very peculiar institution: Christian women who lived together but each in her house without a rule, neither congregation nor founder, absolutely free. Each lived on their income or their work in hospitals or schools. This religious movement produced a very special female and feminist mystical literature, especially in Flanders in the 13th and 14th centuries. Jordi-Xavier Romero read some of the texts that invited us to meditate. We want to especially thank the fifteen people who attended in an afternoon complicated by the bad weather and by the road cut by a rockfall.
